All About Septic Pumping

Blog

Septic pumping is a critical part of septic system maintenance that involves removing the accumulation of solid waste from the septic tank. This article will explain the importance of septic pumping. It also gives you signs to look for that indicate the septic tank needs to be pumped.

Importance of Septic Pumping

You can prevent system failure

Septic pumping needs to be done when the septic tank is filled past a certain point. If you don't have it pumped, then there can be a system failure that can cause many issues in and around your home.

You can extend the life span of the septic system

When you have the septic system pumped as it should be, it reduces the risk of repair issues and can help the system last much longer before it needs replacing.

You will be helping to protect the environment

Routine septic pumping prevents the groundwater from becoming contaminated. If the groundwater is contaminated, then the contamination can end up spreading much further than just in your yard.

Signs the Septic Tank Needs Pumping

You notice the drains are moving slowly

The accumulation of sludge in the septic system can obstruct the flow of wastewater and cause drain problems. Therefore, if your drains are starting to drain slowly, this can let you know the septic system needs to be pumped right away.

You can smell sewage around the house

When the septic tank is full, it can cause the foul odors in the system to come out, and this can cause a stench. You could start smelling sewage in and around your home, and you'll want to have the septic pumped right away if this happens.

You see puddles in the yard

When a septic tank is full, it can cause wastewater to back up and pool on the surface. This is why, if you see puddles in the yard that are there for no reason, then there's good reason to suspect the septic system. This is especially true if the puddles are anywhere near the septic tank or drain field.

You see areas with exceptionally healthy grass

If the septic tank is full, it can prevent the drain field from properly absorbing all of the wastewater. This can cause areas of the grass that are above the drain field to look noticeably healthier than the rest of the grass.

You hear gurgling noises coming from the plumbing

When the septic tank gets too full, it can cause gurgling sounds from pressure changes and air bubbles. If you happen to hear gurgling coming from the drains or when you flush the toilet, then it's time to have someone come pump the septic tank.

Learning About Septic System Care and Usage

Hi there, I am Wes Nelson. When I lived in my first home, I discovered the plumbing connected directly to a septic system on the land. The septic system consisted of a tank, lines and leach field that processed the waste. I had to quickly learn how the septic system worked to keep it in good shape. I had to pay close attention to the substances I sent down the drains or flushed down the toilet. I did not want to disrupt the colonies of bacteria hard at work processing the waste products. On this site, I would like to help others keep their septic system in good working order by sharing the information I discovered. Please visit again soon.
