Blog

Having problems with your septic tank is not a very fun time. There is nothing quite like having sewage in your home. Most of the time septic problems are completely avoidable. There are aspects of a septic systems that will help you keep your septic system up and running at a high level. The good news is that it is usually very easy to keep your septic system clean and working. Here are just a few different things that you can do that will help you keep that septic system clean and running.

Find Your Septic System

It is very important that you know exactly where your septic system is. Most of the time it is going to be deeper than your deepest bathroom in the home and close to your house. The reason that it is important to know where your septic system is located is because you do not want to park on top of it. You do not want to put pressure from above the septic tank. If you put too much pressure on the tank then you could actually damage the tank. You also want to know where the drain fields are so you do not park or obstruct the drain fields.

Use A Trash Can

Simply putting a trash can next to your toilet seat may actually reduce the number of times that you have to call a plumber. One of the big problems that people have is that the septic tank gets backed up. One of the most common reasons is that they flush things that are not biodegradable down the toilet. If you are constantly flushing things like baby wipes, trash, condoms and other non biodegradable products down the toilet then you are going to find that your system does not work right.

Harsh Chemicals

You may not know it, but bacteria play a huge part in the break down of the sewage. These bacteria are really the stars of the sewage show. Often when a person gets a clog they want to try to use harsh chemicals to get rid of the clog. While the harsh liquid chemicals will often blast through a clog, they will also blast the bacteria that help break down the sewage. You do not want to kill off those bacteria. It is better to use a drain snake if you are having trouble with a clog. You do not want to kill the bacteria and not be able to break down the sewage in your septic tank.

Learning About Septic System Care and Usage

Hi there, I am Wes Nelson. When I lived in my first home, I discovered the plumbing connected directly to a septic system on the land. The septic system consisted of a tank, lines and leach field that processed the waste. I had to quickly learn how the septic system worked to keep it in good shape. I had to pay close attention to the substances I sent down the drains or flushed down the toilet. I did not want to disrupt the colonies of bacteria hard at work processing the waste products. On this site, I would like to help others keep their septic system in good working order by sharing the information I discovered. Please visit again soon.
